Here’s an interesting way to add a crocheted edging to socks.

There will come a time when you’ll need to change colors or add thread in the middle of your project. When I learned to knit and crochet, I was told that knots are a no-no. They are too lumpy and hard to hide. If you just weave in your ends enough, nothing will come loose.

Here’s a great tip from Sadie E. Hulands in 1913: When doing any kind of white work, such as crocheting, lay a piece of dark green cloth on the lap and note the difference. Green is particularly restful to the eyes.

Crochet came from the word croc, which is French for hook. Crocheting is an art of fabric creation from a thread, cord or other materials using a crochet hook.

Beginnings

There are many places to put your thread while you’re working on a project. My favorite container is a freezer bag. One is usually big enough for the thread, hook and pattern for a project, and I can set it in my lap while working or just grab it on the way out the door. Here are some other options from our crocheting ancestors.
